((brian loftus)) the murder suspect who escaped police custody after they got him in cuffs remains at the manhunt for 25-year-old alonso perez is gaining national attention. he was taken into custody over the weekend in an interview room... but managed to slip the cuffs and escape the building when a detective stepped out of the room. police say perez stole a pickup truck during the escape. perez is suspected in the deadly shooting of 31-year-old mohammad robinson. the young father was gunned down august 27th near a mcdonalds at north las vegas boulevard and pecos. police say he has an air jordan logo tattoo on the side of his

tattoo looks like. he's considered armed and dangerous. instead, call police or crime stoppers./// ((kirsten joyce)) today marks five years since four people were killed inside a carson city i-hop restaurant. nevada national guard members in northern nevada and in kuwait are marking the anniversary of the mass shooting. soldiers and airmen will take part in a memorial walk and run from the i-hop restaurant to the guard complex to honor the lives lost. three guard members were along with a south lake tahoe resident. seven others were hurt. the 33- year- old gunman killed himself... he had been previously diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia./// ((brian loftus)) tough on crime or too aggressive? a report recently released calls out the clark county district attorney's office... the i-team's vanessa murphy is taking a closer look at what critics are saying...... and has more with a response from the d-a. ((vanessa murphy)) district attorney steve wolfson responding to criticisms of his office's use of the death penalty.... the problems: unfair punishment of the mentally ill and young defendants - along with racial bias according to researchers at harvard law school. they studied the use of the sentence across the country and zeroed in on clark county. ((phil: i agree with what this report say. clark county public defender's office for twelve years. ((phil kohn/clark county public defender: we have been fighting this battle for a long time.)) ((vanessa murphy)) the i-team obtained a list of the 81 inmates on death row in nevada. 40 are identified as white.... 40 non-white and one is unknown. as for age..... 12 are listed as under 20 years old when they committed the crime... and mental status is unavailable. ((kohn: it's incredibly troubling...they are very young and almost every one of them have some type of mental illness

what's also referred to in the report: overzealous prosecution. ((phil: it is my belief is is absolutely the culture of the da's office.)) ((vanessa murphy)) wolfson has reduced the number of death penalty cases since his predecessor. he tells us 40 are pending in clark county right now... and under his watch - six people have been sentenced to death. those numbers to kohn still aren't good enough. ((phil: there's no reason for it.)) ((steve wolfson/clark county district attorney: er and family members of victims that want justice so often times what i'm doing is i'm balancing, i'm looking at both sides of an issue.)) ((brian loftus)) >> steve wolfson says he is wolfson says he is going to implement an integrity unit. an attorney will be dedicated to looking at serious cases where there is still a claim of innocence and they'll be looking at how similar cases across the country are handled to make sure they're being handled the best way in clark county./// ((kirsten joyce))

this morning after a deadly overnight car bombing in baghdad. security officials say at least seven people were killed and 14 others were injured. isis has claimed responsibility, saying a suicide bomber carried it out./// ((brian loftus)) some residents in south oregon are not happy about the 3 point 7 million dollar dakota pipeline project. the pipeline is designed to travel from north dakota to illinois-- transfr the morton county sheriff's department says more than 500 demonstrators interfered with crews at a pipeline work site after cutting the fence. the also say that the demonstrators cut the fence and entered the private property with horses and trucks. demonstrators say that the guards sprayed many of the protesters with pepper spray and that some people were injured by the dogs. (lonnie favel/dapl protester) "it was kind of scary. you know a lot of people are out here with their children. accidents happen all the time with dogs, and people could really get hurt."
